around the globe

Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman, and child should have a decent, safe, and affordable home to live in. Women and children make up the majority of people populating Habitat neighborhoods, as they are the most likely to be affected by poor living conditions. Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliates have been hosting Women Build projects around the globe for more than 25 years. Women Build empowers women volunteers to participate in an exciting experience constructing a home for a local family; and also provides a hands-on opportunity for women to be proactive in addressing the low-income housing needs in their communities.

While Habitat NCG has hosted Women Build days in the past (one Saturday with an all-female volunteer crew), this Women Build 2020 initiative marks the inaugural complete Women Build project. Women from around Metro Atlanta and North Central Georgia have come together to raise $90,000 and build an entire house from the ground up for a family in Forsyth County beginning in February 2020.

Women Build participants represent a diverse cross-section of the Metro Atlanta and North Central Georgia business and civic community. While we’ve come together for the shared purpose of providing a safe and affordable place for parents to raise their children, this initiative also provides an opportunity to empower, develop, and expand the skills of women across our community.
