Please read through the information below to learn how to apply for a home with Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia. Our affiliate serves North Fulton, Forsyth, Cherokee, and Dawson Counties. If you are interested in a home in another part of Metro Atlanta, visit the Other Local Agencies page.
In order to qualify for a Habitat home, you must be a legal, permanent resident of the United States and you must meet these five basic criteria:
1. Demonstrate a need for a Habitat home
Your need for a Habitat home can be based on a number of factors such as the percentage of your income you currently spend on housing, the current physical condition of your residence, or the number of people living in your home compared to the number of bedrooms.
2. Demonstrate the ability to pay the mortgage
Your ability to pay the mortgage is determined by your yearly household income. You must have maintained continuous income in the range listed below based on the size of your family for at least two years. You must be between 30% and 60% of the median income for our area. Please reference the chart below to determine if you meet our income guidelines:
|Family Size||30% Median||60% Median|
3. Demonstrate a willingness to partner with our organization
Your willingness to partner with our organization means you agree to complete required volunteer hours (called ‘sweat equity’) with our organization. You and your family and friends must complete a total of 200 sweat equity hours. You are also required to attend education classes on topics related to homeownership.
4. Prove you have lived or worked in the Metro Atlanta Area for at least one year
5. Provide proof of income for the last two years at the income level required for your family size (see chart above).
In order to apply for our program, you must attend an Application Meeting. Our next Application Meeting will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Roswell United Methodist Church in the Fellowship Hall. This meeting is intended for those interested in living in Cherokee, Forsyth or North Fulton Counties. The meeting will begin promptly at 2 PM so please arrive early in order to get a seat. Those arriving late will not be admitted to the meeting. No childcare is available so please do not bring children younger than age 5. It is not necessary to make a reservation in order to attend this meeting; it is first come first served. We will conclude the meeting by 3:30 PM.
